Parallel Activities

"AICO - Architecture International Congress at Oporto" Parallel Activities, intend to complement the lectures held in the Archive Room through diverse programs, all of them related to architecture.


Parallel Activities to develop during the morning and evening periods:
a) AICO Award – prize awarded by DARCO Magazine and JOFEBAR;
b) Facades Workshop – developed by JOFEBAR;
c) Urban Furniture Workshop – developed by PréGaia;
d) Guided Tours – by Matilde Seabra; 
e) Guided Tours (Alvaro Siza Vieira circuit)“A Casa da Arquitectura";
f) Exhibition of Architecture Models;
g) Architectural Photography Exhibition – by Juan Rodriguez;
h) Parties with invited DJ's.


 
AICO Award

The “AICO – Architecture International Congress at Oporto” Award, promoted and organized by DARCO Magazine and JOFEBAR (organizers of the Congress) and that has the support of the North Region Section of the Portugues Architect Association, aims to act as an incentive and recognition of architectural work produced both by architects and architecture students, participating in the congress.



Facade Workshop

developed by JOFEBAR and in demand of Bill Marshall Architect.

This workshop built in “AICO – Architecture International Congress at Oporto”, will be led by Bill Marshall, architect, and with the support of two architects yet to be appointed. It aims to give participants a closer relation with façade systems, their implementation and the final image.
The result of this synergy will be choosing a winner for the best solution developed during the workshop, which may be developed to implementation.
The winner will receive a prize of € 1,000 and the runner will receive a voucher worth 500 € to shop at Labrador store, both being offered by JOFEBAR.

The workshop will run for four days, from 10h00 to 14h00 and will have a maximum of 20 participants.
 
Bill Marshall is an architect graduated from the Universidad de Buenos Aires; he has complemented his training abroad (Yokohama, Japan), specializing in Systems and Technologies of Buildings Claddings.
He has taught courses and conferences on topics of his expertise in several universities, conferences and symposia in Argentina, Germany, Chile, Spain and Uruguay. He has written numerous articles, technical information and publications on the subject in specialized periodicals. He is a professor of "Master of Light Façades" at the Escuela de Arquitectura da Universidad del País Vasco. Is President of the Marshall y Associados SA office, leading and supervising all team activities. He is a technical advisor for CAVIPLAN (Chamber of flat glass and its manufacturers). Has occupied Commercial and Specialty Products Management positions and as a Technical Consulting for VASA, Vidrería Argentina, SA, Tecnología y del Aluminio, SA Flamia., the Presidency of Vitral, SA., and has acted as Consultant Manager for V & M Consultants. He founded and directs the SISTECCER: Congress of Systems and Coating Technologies for Buildings and the "International Forum on Façades and Roofs", in Buenos Aires. In addition, Guillermo Marshall has extensive experience in the areas of design and building managment.

Professor Dr. Ing. Ulrich Knaack was trained as an architect at the RWTH Aachen / Germany where he after his studied attended as researcher in the field of structural use of glass and finished with a PhD. Then he worked as architect and general planner in Düsseldorf / Germany succeeding in national and international competitions. His projects include high-rise and offices buildings, commercials and stations. Today he is Professor for Design and Construction at the Detmolder Schule für Architektur und Innenarchitektur at the Hochschule OWL / Germany. Parallel he is appointed as Professor for Design of Construction at the Delft University of Technology, Netherlands where he developed the Façade Research Group. He organized interdisciplinary design workshops and symposiums with themes like facades, High Rise and complex buildings and is author of several well-known references books, articles and lectures.
               
Astrid Piber graduated at the Technical University Vienna in 1997. She joined UNStudio in 1998 and left the office the same year to obtain her Master of Science in AAD at Columbia University, New York, returning the following year. She has gained more than ten years experience as a design architect on urban projects and international competitions, including the project for Ponte Parodi, Genoa, and the Port master plan in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria. The realized projects Galleria Luxury Hall West (Seoul, 2003-2004) and Star Place Luxury Shopping Plaza, Kaohsiung (2006-2008) initiated her interest and further involvement with mixed use and retail projects currently under design, such as the Galleria Cheonan (2008-2010) and Raffles City Hangzhou (2008-2012). She became a member of UNStudio's Management Team in 2006 and a Partner of UNStudio in 2008.

Urban Furniture Workshop
developed by PréGaia

PréGaia will develop a workshop under the theme of Concrete Urban Furniture and its main goal is to explore the various design possibilities associated to the material and construction systems addressed by providing the trainees the knowledge and tools to their proper application and prescription.
The result of this synergy will be choosing a winner for the best solution developed during the workshop, which may be developed to implementation.

PréGaia is a trading and manufacturing company especially suited for the design and supply of architectural concrete elements for construction.
It is the market leader in Portugal in solutions for cladding of prefabricated panels or reinforced concrete either in GRC - reinforced concrete with fiberglass.
The panels are executed in accordance to the architectural designs that are submitted to PréGaia.
PréGaia, case by case, through its Technical Office, interprets, designs and produces the parts according to the indications by the designers.
The various types of finishes used in the pre-manufactured are those that have been developed by PréGaia over the time, in a ceaseless search for new solutions and what that their clients sought for.

Architecture Photography Exhibition

"AICO - Architecture International Congress at Oporto" will feature a photography exhibition by Juan Rodriguez with images from all around the world. It will foster a broad reflection around 12 architecture and spaces images of architecture through a wide interdisciplinary Congress.


Juan Rodriguez, born in La Coruña in 1960. Starts the camera activity with 16 years old, at the same time with the studie of Architecture. 
 From 1984, the picture becomes his only occupation. Specialized in architectural photography, held many professional works in the area of fashion, advertising and documentary photography. His research work results in several exhibitions in Europe, North America and South America, and their pictures are published in several publications. His work takes him to places as Galiza, Italy, Greece, France, Netherlands, USA, Nepal, Thailand, Finland, Russia, Japan, Egypt or Patagonia. 

In his work, not only is natural light is present, as well as the light emanating from the objects themselves. His photos are more than a portrait of place, but a place that speaks and floods the image making an actual purchase a latent presence. Images of the dark, as shown in a mysterious world that manifests itself, a manifestation of the occult. sites with shadows are his favorites. Shadows and absences, in a perpetual game of what has been or will be. Common places like; streets, sidewalks and street corners, are visited by the photographer and converted into a new universe, in a new reality.


Guest Dj’s Parties

At the building of the Congress Centre of the old Customs Building – Alfândega do Porto, at Furnas Room, there will be, starting from 23h30, parties organized by DARCO Magazine and JOFEBAR with guest DJs. It's a way to promote the socialization and interaction of all participants, broadening the horizon of cultural contacts.
